How often are treatments recommended

Treatment frequency does depend on the issue(s) you are working to clear as well as the severity. Typically it is recommended to come in weekly for the first month and then once to twice a month for maintenance.
These techniques can be used up to every other day, I offer facial cupping & gua sha parties so you and your friends can learn how to treat yourself at home! Contact me to learn more!

How do facial cupping and gua sha work?
Facial cupping works by creating negative pressure that gently lifts the surrounding tissues into the cup which increases the flow of blood and lymph fluid. The blood brings fresh oxygen (to maintain healthy muscle cells) and the cellular building blocks needed for collagen (strengthens tissue) and elastin (helps maintain form/elasticity) production. The lymph fluid helps to drain excess toxins and puffiness from the area. Cupping also helps release tension in the muscles of our face that we are often not aware we are carrying and can be responsible for wrinkles.

Facial gua sha works very similarly to cupping by increasing the flow of fresh blood and lymph fluid. With this technique a porcelain or stone tool is gently pressed down into the tissues on the face and pulled in the appropriate direction helping to sculpt the face. This also relaxes the muscles of the face and neck so the skin can lie smoothly over them. The different stones the tools are made out of may have additional benefits as well. Both techniques also increase product absorption. Both cupping and gua sha are ancient techniques that have very strong cultural roots and are used to treat so much more in addition to cosmetic complaints. Just like the muscles in our bodies, the muscles that make up our faces need to be maintained as we age if we want them to maintain a youthful appearance and optimal function. None of my treatments are intended to leave any marks or bruising on you face although there may be some redness immediately after treatment.

Is facial cupping & gua sha safe for everyone?

While they are safe for most, these techniques aren't safe for everyone. Facial cupping and facial gua sha are not for you if you have High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, severe Migraines, a Collagen Disease, pustule acne or any other Open Sores/lesions/cuts/infections/Sun Burns on the face or eyes that are not completely healed. As well as if you are Pregnant or Breastfeeding, or have a history of a Blood Clot, Poor Wound Healing, Easy Bruising, or taking Blood Thinning medications, herbs, and/or supplements. Facial cupping and gua sha are not appropriate for you if you have had Dermal Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane...) or Botox with in the last 6-8 weeks. You need to wait 8-10 weeks after any kind of chemical peel, microdermabrasion, laser or similar treatment and be completely healed before using cupping or gua sha on the area. If you are undergoing cancer treatment I prefer that you check with your doctor first as it is generally recommended not to use these techniques immediately after the treatments unless otherwise advised by your doctor.

All of my treatments are safe for all skin tones.

Please remember that while you may be seeing celebrities and other people on TikTok, Instagram, and other media using these techniques it is crucial to remember that cupping, gua sha, and derma rolling are medical techniques that are only intended to be used by trained and licensed professionals for a reason. These techniques can be dangerous when used incorrectly. It is important to work with a professional who has training using these techniques on the face and neck like myself to learn how to perform these techniques on yourself safely and effectively.
